The Team: The Coach: Matt Smith (Towson, `88) is in his ninth year as head coach of the Blue Jays. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 133-28-9 record entering Wednesday's match at Richard Stockton. Smith has led JHU to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years, and has guided the Blue Jays to postseason play in seven straight seasons. The Results: Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy) scored a goal and added two assists to lead Hopkins past Haverford, 4-0. Ryan Hanley (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens), Paul Galli (Roslyn, NY/Herricks), and Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) also scored for the Blue Jays. Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) scored a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win at Moravian, while Ryan Kitzen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) and Doran also found the back of the net. On the Offensive: Johns Hopkins has outscored its opponents this season, 51-5. The Blue Jays have amassed 139 points while holding their foes to 12, and have a 278-60 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeepers Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale College) and Nicholas Challen (Southborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) have combined for 10 shutouts and have needed to make just 31 saves between them this season. Tough Competition: JHU's win over No. 18 Drew marked the Blue Jays' first win over a ranked opponent since a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Rowan on October 8, 1998. Hopkins will get another shot at a ranked opponent on Wednesday when the Blue Jays travel to No. 17 Richard Stockton. Also on the schedule are Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall, both of whom are ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Blue Jays have already defeated Muhlenberg and Western Maryland, who are both ranked in the region. Tick, Tick, Tick: Before Drew's Olaksandr Stakhiv scored with 12 minutes remaining on Oct. 6, Hopkins had recorded six straight shutouts and went 642:15 without giving up a goal. Goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. went 617:40 without giving up a goal, the 11th longest streak in Division III history. Williams Named Centennial Co-Player of the Week: Aerik Williams was named the Centennial Conference Co-Player of the Week along with Western Maryland's Barclay Losse, the Conference announced Monday. Doran Heading West: Matthew Doran is closing in on the Johns Hopkins and Centennial Conference career records for goals and points. All four records are held by Eric West, who played at Hopkins from 1994-97. Doran is in second place on all four lists, he needs 8 goals and 16 points to overtake West. Williams now has 34 career helpers, breaking the previous record of 33 held by Gregory Stevcic of Gettysburg and Frank Adamson of Haverford. Earlier this season Williams recorded an assist against Alvernia to break Eric West's JHU career mark of 28 assists. Doran Moving Up D-III Lists: Matthew Doran now has 157 career points, ranking him 22nd on the career points list in Division III history. Doran's 65 career goals put him in a tie for 21st place in D-III history. Blue Jays Among Conference Leaders: Matthew Doran leads the conference in goals and assists, and has 17 more points than anyone else in the league. Chad Tarabolous is third in goals per game and third in points per game, while Ryan Kitzen is fourth in both categories. Goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. leads the league with a 0.41 goals against average and is fourth with an 85.3 save percentage. As a team, Hopkins leads the league in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Blue Jays Streaking: Hopkins has won nine straight matches, eight by shutout. The streak is the longest since the 1998 team opened the season 10-0. The school record for consecutive wins is 15, set in 1996. Feeling At Home At Homewood: The Blue Jays have given new meaning to the term "home field advantage," delivering a 62-5-3 (.907) record at Homewood Field since 1994. Included in that stretch is a 25-game home winning streak from 1996-98.
