Complete Release in PDF Format A Look Back: Johns Hopkins played just one game last week, going on the road for a crucial Centennial Conference match-up at Dickinson. The Blue Jays were also in seek of a little revenge for a 2-1 loss to the Red Devils last season at Homewood Field. The loss snapped a 53-match Centennial Conference unbeaten streak at home for JHU. After going down 1-0 early, the Blue Jays scored four goals in a span of just 20:25 en route to a 4-2 win over the Red Devils. With the win, the Blue Jays are unbeaten in their last eight games (6-0-2) and are atop the Centennial Conference standings with 13 points and a 4-0-1 record. The Week Ahead: Hopkins has just one game this week as the Blue Jays travel to Collegeville, PA to take on the Ursinus Bears (6-7-0, 2-3-0 CC) on Saturday. Hopkins will look to secure its hold on first place in the conference standings as second-place Swarthmore visits fourth-place Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. JHU leads the all-time series with Ursinus (which began in 1946) 27-7-1 and has won 13 straight over the Bears. At the Helm: Head coach Craig Appleby is in his first season at Johns Hopkins and carries a 10-2-2 record with the Blue Jays. Appleby came to JHU after spending six seasons as the head coach of Emory & Henry. Twenty-One: Head coach Craig Appleby boasts a 10-2-2 (.756) record through his first 14 games. He is the first coach since 1987 and just the second ever to boast a win percentage of .750 or better through their first 14 games as head coach. On the Move: Senior Nick Gauna scored his 27th career goal in the win over Dickinson on Saturday. That gives him 80 points for his career as he stands alone in eighth place all-time in school history. In addition, his 27 career goals are tied for 11th most in JHU history. Gauna also has 26 career assists entering this week's action. That ranks fourth most in school history. In Centennial Conference history, he is tied for ninth in career assists and 23rd in career points. Scott Bukoski is also making his mark on the record book. The sophomore already ranks in the top-15 in career points and goals. He ranks 13th with 68 points and tied for eighth with 29 goals. Last season, he became just the fifth player in program history to score 20 or more goals in one season. In the Ranks: Johns Hopkins continues to move up in the NSCAA National Top 25. After their win over the Red Devils last week, the Blue Jays jumped from 19th to 17th in the nation. Hopkins is also ranked third in the Middle Atlantic Region. Home Sweet Home: Historic Homewood Field has been the definition of home field advantage for the Blue Jays, especially in Centennial Conference play. Since the inception of the conference in 1993, Hopkins is 52-3-3 (.922) at home in regular season conference games. In the Centennial Conference Tournament, the Blue Jays are 4-1-3 (.687) at home. Atop the Standings: Johns Hopkins sits atop the Centennial Conference standings with 13 points and a 4-0-1 record. JHU is just one point ahead of second-place Swarthmore (4-1-0, 12 pts) and four points ahead of third-place Dickinson. Though the Blue Jays have defeated the Garnet and the Red Devils this season, giving the Blue Jays an advantage in the event of a tie. Leading the Way: Sophomore forward Scott Bukoski continues to lead the Centennial Conference in six of the nine offensive categories, including points (22), goals (9) and game-winning goals (4). Hopkins leads the Centennial Conference in all six team offensive categories, including points (90), goals (33) and assists (24). Preseason Favorite: The Blue Jays were favored to win their eighth Centennial Conference title in the 2008 Centennial Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Hopkins picked up 77 points with seven first-place votes. The Blue Jays have been the preseason favorite for six straight years, dating back to the 2003 preseason coaches poll.
