Baltimore, MD - Gettysburg midfielder Michael Sarbaugh scored the game-winning goal with 27:44 remaining in the match to lift the Bullets men's soccer team over Johns Hopkins, 2-1, Friday night at Homewood Field in the Centennial Conference Semifinals.

Gettysburg advances to the championship game of the first-ever conference tournament Saturday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the second semifinal featuring No. 2 seed Western Maryland and No. 3 seed Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Michael McLaughlin gave the Bullets the lead in the sixth minute by heading a ball into the top left corner of the goal. Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) tied the game in the 42nd minute when he collected a header from Ryan Hanley (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens) and beat Gettysburg goalkeeper Steve Kapp from 10 yards out.
 

 

The match remained tied until the 73rd minute, when Sarbaugh beat Hopkins goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) for the game-winner.

Kane, Jr. made two saves for the Blue Jays, who fell to a Centennial Conference team for the first time in 21 matches, while Kapp made four saves in goal for Gettysburg.

In other action Friday:

Senior midfielder Tom Long headed home a cross from Vinny Pedalino in the second overtime as the Western Maryland men's soccer team defeated Muhlenberg, 1-0, Friday night to advance to the Centennial Conference Championship Game. The Green Terror will play Gettysburg Saturday at 6 p.m. at Homewood Field, with the winner earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Both teams had numerous chances to win the game in regulation, but Muhlenberg goalkeeper Chris Davis and Western Maryland goalkeeper Ryan Defibaugh kept the game scoreless until Long's goal. Both teams also had shots hit the post, including one in overtime by Muhlenberg.

Dave Vassilaros led the Mules with six shots, while Long paced the Green Terror with four.
