Hopkins Men's Soccer Wins Eighth Straight With 4-0 Shutout Of Haverford Oct. 10, 2001
Baltimore, MD - Senior forward Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy) scored one goal and set the Centennial Conference assist record with two helpers to lead the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Haverford College Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field. Ryan Hanley (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens) gave Hopkins the lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first half when he headed in a corner kick by Williams. Williams, who already holds the JHU career assists record with 34, broke the conference record in the 51st minute when Paul Galli (Roslyn, NY/Herricks) took his pass and beat Haverford goalkeeper Dan DiBruno to give the Blue Jays a two-goal lead. Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season off a pass from Hanley in the 59th minute, and Williams concluded the scoring in the 82nd minute when he scored off an assist from Daniel Brienza (Farmingville, NY/Sachem). Hopkins goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made two saves in the victory, as the Blue Jays out-shot the Fords, 18-3. Hopkins steps out of conference on Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Moravian for a 3:30 p.m. match.
