Blue Jays Win Seventh Straight With 4-1 Thrashing Of Drew Oct. 6, 2001
Baltimore, MD - Blue Jay forward Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) notched a goal and two assists and Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) added a goal and an assist as the No. 12 Johns Hopkins men's soccer team defeated Drew University, 4-1, for its seventh consecutive victory Saturday night at Homewood Field.
The two forwards teamed up for the first Hopkins goal just 11:01 into the match when Tarabolous took a pass from Doran and blasted home a shot from about 10 yards out. The Blue Jays took a 2-0 lead 13 minutes later when Adam Hack (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) headed in a corner kick from Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy).
Hopkins added a third goal in the 42nd minute. Tarabolous headed a corner kick from Ryan Kitzen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) to Doran, who headed the ball into the net, and the Blue Jays led 3-0 at halftime. Hopkins made it 4-0 in the 56 minute when Daniel Brienza (Farmingville, NY/Sachem) took a beautiful pass from Doran and beat Drew goalkeeper Nate Burris to the far side. The Rangers, ranked 18th coming into the match, got on the board with 12 minutes remaining on an unassisted goal from Oleksandr Stakhiv, but Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/LaSalle College) made four saves to make the lead hold up.
