Hopkins Stays Unbeaten In Centennial With 2-0 Shutout Of Muhlenberg Sept. 30, 2001
Allentown, PA - Ryan Kitzen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) and Paul Galli (Roslyn, NY/Herricks) each scored a goal to lead the Johns Hopkins men' soccer team to its sixth straight victory with a 2-0 shutout of Muhlenberg Saturday night. Kitzen put the Blue Jays on the board early with he headed home a cross by Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy) in the 12th minute. Galli added an insurance goal in the 54th minute when he scored off a pass from Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay). The Hopkins defense would make the lead stand up, as the Mules did not get a quality scoring chance all night and did not record a shot on goal. Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale College) recorded his third shutout of the season and second in as many matches. The Blue Jays lead the Centennial Conference with a 5-0 record and are virtually assured of qualifying for the four-team league tournament on November 3-4. Muhlenberg fell to 2-2 in the conference, putting the Mules in a tie for fourth place. Hopkins will return to Homewood Field Saturday when the Blue Jays host Drew at 7 p.m. in a battle of national powerhouses. Drew is ranked second in this week's Mid-Atlantic Region, while Hopkins is third. Johns Hopkins (9-1, 5-0) 1 1- 2 Muhlenberg (5-3, 2-2) 0 0- 0 Goals: JH: Kitzen (12th), Galli (54th).
