Johns Hopkins Posts Third Straight Shutout with 2-0 win at Haverford
Sept. 27, 2008
HAVERFORD, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team rolled its unbeaten streak to five straight on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout at Haverford. For the Blue Jays (7-2-1, 2-0-0 CC) it is their third straight shutout and fifth of the season. The Fords fall to 2-4-1 and 0-1-1 in the Centennial with the loss. Sophomore Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) gave Hopkins an early 1-0 lead, scoring his conference-best ninth goal of the season in the 12th minute. Bukoski dribbled past the Haverford goalie and put the ball in the center of the net for his 29th career goal. That ties him for ninth in program history. Senior Matty Carlson (Bristol, CT/Loomis Chaffee) added an insurance goal in the 59th minute off a corner kick. Junior Max Venker (Oldsmar, FL/Palm Harbor University) sent the ball into the box and Carlson headed it into the right side to make it a 2-0 game. Junior Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished with five saves in the goal for his third shutout of the season and seventh of his career. Adam Care made seven saves for the Fords. Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1 when it hosts rival McDaniel. Game time for the Centennial Conference match-up is slated for 4 pm at Homewood Field.
