Doran Leads Johns Hopkins Men's Soccer To 5-0 Win Over Swarthmore Sept. 15, 2001
Swarthmore, PA - Senior forward Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) scored a goal and assisted on three others and sophomore Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) scored twice as the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team defeated Swarthmore, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. Tarabolous gave Hopkins the early lead by scoring an unassisted goal just 1:30 into the match. Mike Poston (Nashua, NH/Nashua Senior) made it 2-0 by scoring off a feed from Doran in the 32nd minute, and Tarabolous scored his second goal off a pass from Doran with just three second remaining in the first half to give the Blue Jays a three-goal lead at the break. Doran recorded his third helper of the match when Ryan Kitzen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) scored off his pass in the 58th minute, and the senior scored one of his own in the 65th minute to close the scoring. JHU goalkeeper Gary Kane, Jr. (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale College) made two saves in 78 minutes in the victory. Swarthmore goalie Nate Shupe collected 11 saves while playing the entire contest. Hopkins recorded 17 shots in the match, while the Garnet only had three. The Blue Jays will return to action on Wednesday when Hopkins hosts conference foe Western Maryland at 4 p.m. at Homewood Field.
