Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to down visiting Bridgewater 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 5-2-0 on the season while the Eagles slip to 3-3-0.

Senior Nick Gauna (Evanston, IL/Evanston) put the Blue Jays on the board early with his first of the season, putting one into the far corner in just the 10th minute. Ivan Barisic responded for the Eagles in the 25th minute, knotting the score at 1-1. Chris Thomas crossed the ball from the right side and Barisic poked it home.

Coming out of the half, sophomore Evan Kleinberg (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) wasted little time putting Hopkins back up on top. He drove the middle and scored on a shot to the right corner in the 47th minute. Senior Robbie Carper (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) scored off a rebound from a Chris Wilson (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) shot to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead in the 69th minute. Hopkins would add to its lead in the 82nd minute when Carper crossed the ball to senior Matty Carlson (Bristol, CT/Loomis Chaffee), who poked it into the left corner.

Junior Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) earned his third win of the season in the goal as he finished with one save. Zane Lineberry posted 11 saves for the Eagles in the goal.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17 when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Cabrini in a 6:30 pm non-conference match-up.
