Box Score

YORK, PA - The #4 York College Spartans needed just one goal to hold off the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays Wednesday afternoon in non-conference showdown at Graham Field. The loss ends Hopkins' four-game win streak as the Blue Jays slip to 4-2-0 on the season. The Spartans improved to 3-0-0 with the win.

Sophomore Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) nearly put the Blue Jays on the board in the seventh minute after eluding several Spartan defenders and firing a shot that goalie Kyle Marks just deflected wide. The teams went back-and-forth from there, but it was York that finally broke through in the 44th minute. Jon Ports won a 50-50 ball out of the air at midfield, Kemal Nuspahic collected the loose ball, beat several Blue Jay defenders and rifled a shot into the upper left corner.

The second half was more of the same as the two teams battled back-and-forth, but Nuspahic's strike would prove to be the only goal of the game. Junior Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished with a career-high seven saves in his first loss of the season. Marks finished with three saves for the Spartans.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 when Bridgewater visits Homewood Field. JHU is 2-0-0 all-time against Bridgewater. Game time is slated for 2:00 pm.
