Box Score

SEWANEE, TN - Sophomore forward Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) had a hand in all three of the Blue Jays' goals as the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team shut out Sewanee 3-0 at the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational. Hopkins improves to 4-1-0 on the season and has won its last four outings.

Bukoski put Hopkins on the board in just the fourth minute as he beat a Tiger defender for his team-leading fifth goal of the season. He extended the Blue Jays lead to two in the 18th minute with an unassisted tally. Junior Max Venker (Oldsmar, FL/Palm Harbor University) would add an insurance goal in the 51st minutes as the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead. Bukoski crossed the ball into the box, which was redirected by senior Akash Naik (Simpsonville, SC/Hillcrest) before Venker put it home for his first of the season.

Junior Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Blue Jays and was not forced to make a save for his first shutout of the season. For the Tigers, Johnny Nalley started the match and gave up three goals while finishing with five saves. Matt Hale replaced him in the 78th minute and finished with one save.

With six goals and one assist in his last three games, Bukoski is steadily climbing the ranks in the Hopkins record book. He now boasts 59 career points and 26 career goals, ranking him tied for 15th and tied for 14th, respectively, in program history.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 10 at #5 York College. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
