BALTIMORE, Dec. 19, 2013 -- US Lacrosse has named National Hall of Fame member and Johns Hopkins University men's lacrosse head coach Dave Pietramala a speaker at the US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion. Pietramala, also an assistant coach for Team USA, will join roughly 200 of the sport's best coaches and officials as presenters at the largest professional development event in the world for lacrosse coaches, officials and administrators Jan. 10-12, 2014, in Philadelphia.

Pietramala will host "Developing an Individual Defenseman Within a Team System" for boys' lacrosse coaches at 10:40 a.m. Jan. 11 in the ballroom at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

"Dave Pietramala is a world-class coach who leads a program that's always mentioned among the first with regard to success and tradition in the sport and the development of high-achieving players on and off the field," said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. "We are thrilled he will speak at our convention and are looking forward to his presentation."

"As coaches, we share an obligation to give back to the game and help other coaches who are charged with developing young people, and speaking at the US Lacrosse National Convention represents a great opportunity to do that," Pietramala said. "I want to thank US Lacrosse for helping to educate coaches, and I'm looking forward to sharing several defensive philosophies with the coaches in attendance at the convention."

Pietramala will enter his 14th season at Johns Hopkins in 2014, having led his alma mater to NCAA championships in 2005 and 2007 and to appearances in the final in 2003 and 2008. The Blue Jays played in 12 consecutive NCAA tournaments during his tenure, which has included the development of dozens of players who have earned All-American and Academic All-American honors. Prior to returning to Johns Hopkins, Pietramala served as the head coach at Cornell University, leading the Big Red to the 2000 NCAA tournament -- its first appearance since 1995.

Pietramala serves as the defensive coordinator for the U.S. men's team, which will attempt to win a second consecutive gold medal at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship July 10-19 in Denver. He starred as a defenseman for Team USA in 1990 and 1994 following an All-American career at Johns Hopkins. Pietramala remains the only person to win national player of the year and national coach of the year honors. He was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 2004.
