BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced the Blue Jays’ 2012 schedule today, complete with eight home games, games in the Konica Minolta Inside Lacrosse Face-Off and Big City Classics and a return to Homewood Field by Army for JHU’s annual Homecoming game. Hopkins will prep for the challenging schedule with scrimmages against Penn State and Cornell in early February and the 14 regular season games will match the school record for most in a season (2010, 2011).

“Our players and coaches are looking forward to the 2012 season and we are excited about the challenges that our schedule presents” Pietramala noted. “Returning to Princeton for the first time in several years and having our game against Maryland return to Homewood Field are certainly highlights of the schedule, as are our appearances in the two Inside Lacrosse events that we are fortunate enough to participate in again this year. We look forward to the opportunities this schedule presents to grow as a team as the season unfolds.”

Johns Hopkins will open the 2012 season at home against Towson on Friday, February 17 and will also host Delaware (Feb. 21) and Siena (Feb. 25) to round out a three-game season-opening home stand. The Towson and Delaware games will both start at 5 pm with the game against Siena set for 3 pm. The game on February 17 vs. Towson will mark the earliest season-opener in school history.

The Blue Jays will then make their first trip to Princeton since 2005 to take on the Tigers on Friday, March 2. Home games against Manhattan (Mar. 6) and Syracuse (Mar. 17) are sandwiched around JHU’s sixth straight appearance in the Konica Minola Face-Off Classic at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium as the Blue Jays will take on UMBC (Mar. 10) in the annual classic that also features Princeton taking on North Carolina and Virginia playing Cornell.

The game against Syracuse will kickoff a rugged thee-game, 15-day swing that will see the Blue Jays follow their match with the Orange with a trip to Virginia (Mar. 24) and a game against North Carolina (Apr. 1) in the Konica Minolta Big City Classic at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The 4 pm game against Syracuse will be preceded by a women’s game between Johns Hopkins and Harvard at Homewood Field (noon), while the JHU-UNC game will cap a tripleheader that also includes St. John’s taking on Notre Dame (1 pm) and Syracuse playing Duke (4 pm). The Hopkins-Carolina game is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

Johns Hopkins’ trip to take on North Carolina on April 1 will mark the last time the Blue Jays leave the state of Maryland during the regular season as they will return to Homewood later that week to host Albany (Apr. 5) before long-time rival Maryland visits Homewood Field for the first time since 2008 on April 14. Johns Hopkins and Maryland will be meeting for the 108th time in a series that dates to 1895. The game is scheduled for 6 pm.

Consecutive road games at Navy (Apr. 21) and Loyola (Apr. 28) will lead to a regular-season-ending meeting with Army (May 5) on the Blue Jays’ Homecoming. Johns Hopkins and Army will be meeting for the 68th time and the Cadets will be returning to Homewood Field for the first time during the regular season since 1997.
