BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced today that three players have been selected to serve as team captains for the upcoming 2010 season. The three players will lead a team that posted a 10-5 record and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season.

Senior midfielder Michael Kimmel (Towson, MD/Loyola), senior defenseman Sam DeVore (East Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and senior attackman Tom Duerr (Manasquan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) were selected in a vote by their teammates to serve as team captains for the 2010 season. This will be the first time any of the three has served as a team captain.

"While we have a large and experienced senior class, we also have a number of younger players who will play prominent roles for us in 2010," Pietramala noted. "The leadership our three captains provide will be essential to the growth and success of our team this year and our staff could not be more pleased with the selection of these young men as our team captains. Each possesses the character, integrity and work ethic we look for and value in our players and I'm certain they will do an excellent job leading our team and representing our program and Johns Hopkins University."

Kimmel has played in all 49 games with 39 starts during his career. He garnered Second Team USILA All-America honors last season, when he tied for second on the team in scoring with 20 goals and 25 assists. Those totals pushed his career marks to 56 goals and 50 assists and he is one of just three Johns Hopkins midfieldrs in the last 30 years to total 30 or more points in each of their first three seasons (Del Dressel, Paul Rabil). In addition, he is one of just four midfielders in school history with more than 50 career goals and assists (Dressel, Rabil, John Krumenacker).

DeVore has been an integral part of the Johns Hopkins defense over the last three years and has played in 47 games with 25 starts to his credit. He played in and started all 15 games last season, when the Blue Jays rallied behind their defense to win seven straight games after a 3-4 start. The Blue Jay defense allowed just 8.7 goals per game during the seven-game winning streak after allowing 10.7 goals per game through the first seven games.

Duerr missed all but one game last season with an injury, but returned for a fifth year and was rewarded with his selection as a team captain. He has played in 42 games with five starts on attack during his career and counts 18 goals and five assists to his credit. Duerr has done some his finest work during the NCAA Tournament in his career as he played a key role in JHU's run to the 2007 NCAA Championship. He scored key goals in JHU's quarterfinal victory over Georgetown and semifinal win over Delaware before capping his stirring run in the tournament with a second quarter goal in the 12-11 win over Duke in the NCAA title game.

Since Pietramala took over in 2001 the Blue Jays have posted an 106-30 record, qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year, advanced to the NCAA Semifinals six times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008), finished as national runner-up twice (2003, 2008) and won the 2005 and 2007 national championships.
