Oct. 2, 2009

BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced today that the Blue Jays will play a pair of scrimmages over the next two weeks to close out the fall portion of the team's schedule. One of the scrimmages will be on the road and the other will take place at Homewood Field.

Johns Hopkins will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Friday, October 9 to take on Ohio State in the annual "Thumbs Up" event. The scrimmage will take place at Upper Arlington High School in Columbus with faceoff scheduled for 7 pm. Tickets for the scrimmage will be available at the gate.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Michael Robert Breschi Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund, the largest memorial scholarship endowment in the Ohio State athletics department. The scholarship was created in memory of Michael Breschi, the son of former Ohio State lacrosse coach Joe Breschi, who passed away tragically in March 2004 when he was just three years old.

The Blue Jays will make the quick turnaround after the scrimmage against the Buckeyes and return home to host the English National Team four days later on October 13 at Homewood Field. That scrimmage is slated to start at 3:30 pm, is free and open to the public.

Since Pietramala took over in 2001 the Blue Jays have posted a 106-30 (.779) record, qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year, advanced to the NCAA Semifinals six times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008), finished as national runner-up twice (2003, 2008) and won the 2005 and 2007 national championships.- 30 -
