Sept. 29, 2005

BALTIMORE, MD -- Members of the Johns Hopkins University men's lacrosse team and Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Friends (JHPOF) will celebrate families and friends at the Second Annual Fall Festival presented by the Baltimore Area Volvo Retailers. The event will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2005, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, MD. Members of the team are expected to be on hand from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

The Fall Festival will feature rides and games for kids of all ages, sumptuous and plentiful food, as well as live entertainment, including a special performance by award-winning kids' rock bank, Milkshake. WBAL's Deborah Weiner will welcome the crowd and kick off the day's festivities. Special guests will also include members of the 2006 Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team and the ever-popular Oriole Bird!

Admission, parking and entertainment are free. Bring the whole family for a great day of fun! In the event of rain, the fun will be moved inside.

All proceeds from the event will benefit pediatric oncology research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.

The Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Program at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center is a world leader, standing at the forefront of childhood cancer research and care. JHPOF is a volunteer organization launched over a decade ago by the Mitchell family, who themselves lost a son to cancer. JHPOF has been a constant and enthusiastic supporter, raising over $1 million for childhood cancer research. The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team has been active in its fight against cancer since 1997, when Chris Gardner, a member of the 1996 Hopkins lacrosse team, lost his battle with the disease. Gardner had received treatment at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and the Blue Jays continue to play a benefit game in his honor each season.

The Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Friends Fall Festival is presented by The Baltimore Area Volvo Retailers and sponsored by Baltimore's Child and STX Lacrosse.
