BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala and women's lacrosse coach Janine Tucker announced today that they have teamed with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in the fight against Pediatric Cancer. The Blue Jay men's and women's lacrosse teams will each host a clinic this fall with all proceeds going to pediatric cancer research.

The girl's clinic, which is open to girls in first through eighth grades, will take place at Homewood Field on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at 8:45-10 a.m. Only the first 60 girls to register will be accepted and the full $35 fee to participate is tax deductible. Girls should come ready to play with stick, goggles and mouth guard.

The boy's clinic, which is open to boys in the first through eighth grades, will take place at Cedar Lane Regional Park in Bel Air, Maryland on Sunday, October 3, 2010, from noon to 1:15 pm. Only the first 90 boys to register will be accepted and the full $35 fee to participate is tax deductible. Boys should come ready to play with helmet, gloves, stick and mouth guard. The clinic will start promptly at noon and will conclude with an autograph session with the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team.

Janine Tucker and the JHU women's lacrosse team will host a clinic at Homewood Field on Sunday, September 26.

In addition, all boys and girls who attend one of the clinics will receive one (1) complimentary ticket to the Johns Hopkins-Princeton men's lacrosse game at Homewood Field on March 5, 2011.

"We are honored that the administration at the Kimmel Cancer Center has invited us to participate in the battle against pediatric cancer," Pietramala noted. "Our team has been active at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center since Chris Gardner, a member of our team, lost his battle with cancer more than 10 years ago. There is no greater work being done at Johns Hopkins than that at our medical institutions."

In the event the clinic is cancelled due to inclement weather, there is an option on the registration form for the Kimmel Cancer Center to keep the donation. If the box is not checked, the donation will be returned to the participant.

In addition to completing the registration form, parents will need to sign a participation waiver. The waiver may be printed in advance from the Kimmel Cancer Center Web site or completed on-site the day of each clinic. All participants must have a completed waiver, signed by a parent or guardian, in order to take part in the clinic.

Approximately 12,000 children and teens are diagnosed with cancer each year. While it is the leading disease-related cause of death for children, research and the corresponding research dollars are primarily focused on adult cancers. The Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center is a nationally-recognized leader in the research and treatment of pediatric cancer, designated by the National Cancer Institute. "We are honored that our University's renowned lacrosse teams are taking time out of their busy schedules to support our pediatric cancer program. Efforts like Lacrosse vs. Childhood Cancer help us direct money to research and the care of the youngest victims of cancer," says Donald Small, M.D., Ph.D., Director of Pediatric Oncology. "It is not an overstatement to say that every dollar makes a difference."

Join the Johns Hopkins team as we bring together the best college lacrosse players and the best cancer researchers to take on childhood cancer.
