June 14, 2007

BALTIMORE, MD - Paul Rabil (Gaithersburg, MD/DeMatha), a junior midfielder on the 2007 NCAA Champion Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's University Division At-Large Third Team it was recently announced. Rabil is the sixth Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse player to earn Academic All-America honors and the fifth to do so under head coach Dave Pietramala.

Rabil, who was previously named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District II team, carries a 3.49 cumulative grade point average as a political science major. He completed an internship at the Cordish Company (commercial real estate development) last summer and served as a teaching assistant last fall in Business Process Quality Management. He also carries a minor in entrepreneurship and management.

With one year remaining Rabil is already one of the most decorated players in school history. He earned Third Team All-America honors as a freshman before garnering first team honors as a sophomore and junior. He was one of five finalists for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award in 2007, when he also became the fifth Johns Hopkins player to earn the McLaughlin Award as the nation's top midfielder (the five have combined to win the award seven times). He also earned a spot on the 2007 NCAA All-Tournament Team after leading the Blue Jays to the national championship.

Rabil led the Blue Jays in scoring as a junior with career highs of 27 goals, 26 assists and 53 points. He punched home four game-winning goals, including overtime tallies in wins over Princeton and Maryland. He polished off the 2007 season with a one-goal, five-assist masterpiece in a 12-11 win against Duke in the NCAA Championship game and will carry career totals of 75 goals and 53 assists into the 2008 season.

To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team an athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and boast at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and must have completed one full year at his or her current institution. Sports Information Director's nominate eligible athletes from their schools.
