BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team had three players selected in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Draft, which was held on Sunday, June 6 at Yale University.  Midfielder Michael Kimmel was selected by the Chesapeake Bayhawks with the second overall pick, while attackman Steven Boyle was taken by the Boston Cannons with the 12th pick (final selection in the second round).  Defenseman Sam DeVore was the final Johns Hopkins player selected as he was taken by the Bayhawks with the second pick in the sixth round (32nd overall).  A total of 48 players were selected in the eight-round draft.

Kimmel is the seventh Johns Hopkins player selected in the first round of the MLL draft since the league was formed in 2001.  Only two Johns Hopkins players – Kyle Harrison and Paul Rabil – have been selected higher than Kimmel.  Harrison and Rabil were the top overall selections in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Since the formation of the MLL in 2001, Johns Hopkins has now had 28 players selected in the league’s annual collegiate draft.

Kimmel, a First Team USILA All-American as a senior, was Johns Hopkins’ second-leading scorer in 2010 with 23 goals and 16 assists for 39 points.  His 23 goals ranked third on the team, while his 16 assists ranked second. He also finished second on the team in ground balls (37).  His 23 goals also tied his career high and his 39-point effort marked the fourth straight season he totaled 30 or more points.  He is just the third midfielder in school history to total 30 or more points four times.

Kimmel finished his career with 79 goals and 66 assists for 145 points.  He is one of just three midfielders in school history to register 75 or more goals and 65 or more assists and he finishes his career ranked 18th on JHU’s career assist list and 22nd on the points list.  Among players who played exclusively midfield during their career at Johns Hopkins, Kimmel ranks third in points and fourth in assists.  He also tied the Johns Hopkins career record with 64 games played.

Boyle enjoyed the finest statistical season of his career in 2010 as he led Johns Hopkins in goals (32), assists (23) and points (55).  He also scored a team-high five extra-man goals and his goal, assist and point totals were all career highs.  Boyle finished 15th in the nation in points per game (3.67), 22nd in assists per game (1.53) and 35th in goals per game (2.13).  He was one of just 11 players in the nation to post 30 or more goals and 20 or more assists and he is the first Johns Hopkins player to turn the trick since Kyle Barrie in 2003.

Boyle ended his career with 95 goals and 69 assists for 164 points.  He is tied for 21st on JHU’s career goal-scoring list, tied for 14th on the assist list and ranks 16th on the points list.  He totaled at least one point in all 15 games this season.

DeVore started all 15 games on defense in 2010 and all 30 over his final two years.  He finished third on the team with 33 ground balls this season and led the team with 21 caused turnovers.  He holds the top two single-season caused turnover marks in school history and anchored a Johns Hopkins defense that held the opposition scoreless for 10 minutes or longer 23 times during the 2010 season.
