May 10, 2007 BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins junior midfielder Paul Rabil (Gaithersburg, MD/DeMatha) is one of five finalists for the 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy, it was announced today by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. Rabil is the third different finalist from Johns Hopkins since 2003 as he joins Adam Doneger (2003) and Kyle Harrison (2003, 2004, 2005 winner) on the distinguished list. Rabil is joined by Duke's Matt Danowski, Virginia's Ben Rubeor, Albany's Frank Resetarits and Cornell's Max Seibald in the final five.
Rabil currently leads the team in scoring with 23 goals and a career-high 16 assists for a personal-best 39 points. He has already set a school single-season record with two game-winning goals in overtime (Princeton / Maryland) and has picked up his scoring pace in recent weeks. After totaling four goals and one assist in Hopkins' first four games of the season he has punched up 19 goals and 15 assists in the last nine games. He has registered three or more points in seven straight games and totaled 11 points in the final two regular-season games of the year.
Rabil earned First Team All-America honors last season and is one of just two returning First Team All-Americans. He enters this week's first round NCAA Tournament game against Notre Dame with career totals of 71 goals and 43 assists for 114 points. He is one of just two active midfielders in the nation with more than 70 goals and 40 assists.
Johns Hopkins is currently 9-4 on the year and ranked fifth in the nation. The Blue Jays earned the number three seed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament and will host Notre Dame (11-3) on Saturday night at 7:30 pm in the first round.
