Feb. 21, 2008

BALTIMORE, MD - Four members of the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team have been named to the 2008 Warrior Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. Senior midfielders Paul Rabil (Gaithersburg, MD/DeMatha) and Stephen Peyser (Lloyd Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor), junior defenseman Michael Evans (Davidsonville, MD/South River) and junior long stick midfielder Matt Drenan (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) are among the 51 players named to the list. The Tewaaraton Trophy is presented annually to the top male and female lacrosse players in the nation.

Rabil was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy last season as he earned First Team USILA All-America honors for the second straight year and won the McLaughlin Award as the nation's top midfielder. He totaled 27 goals and 26 assists and enters his final season with a chance to become Hopkins' career scoring leader among midfielders. He has totaled 75 goals and 53 assists in three years.

Peyser enjoyed the finest season of his career last season as he scored 16 goals and added 10 assists, won 106-of-189 (.561) faceoffs and led the team with 80 ground balls. He earned Third Team USILA All-America honors and fueled JHU's nine-game season-ending winning streak as he won 69-of-112 (.616) faceoffs and grabbed 55 ground balls during Hopkins' run to the national championship.

Evans emerged last season as one of the top defensemen in the nation as he started all 17 games and spearheaded a unit that got stingier as the season progressed. After allowing an average of 8.5 goals per game during the first eight games of the season, the Blue Jay defense allowed just 7.22 goals per game during the nine-game winning streak that was capped with the program's ninth NCAA Championship. Evans earned Honorable Mention USILA All-America honors a year ago.

Drenan returns to the Blue Jay lineup after missing the entire 2007 season with an injury. As a freshman in 2006, he started all 14 games on close defense and led all Johns Hopkins defenders with 32 ground balls on the year. He is making the move to long stick midfield this season.

Johns Hopkins will open the 2008 season at home on Saturday, February 23 when the Blue Jays host Albany. Game time at Homewood Field is set for noon with a live national television audience (ESPNU).
