Blue Jay Jersey Countdown - #29

As we countdown to '13, a season Blue Jay faithful hope will end with a 10 on the 27th, HopkinsSports.com offers its own countdown ... by jersey number ... to the season-opener against Siena on February 8.

Today - #29

Did You Know: From 1996-2005, the only two players to wear #29 for the Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team were brothers Paul (1996-99) and Peter LeSueur (2002-05). The number was not worn in 2000 or 2001.

Player SpotlightPeter LeSueur
Peter LeSueur fueled Johns Hopkins’ amazing run from 2002-05. During that time the Blue Jays compiled a 55-6 record, advanced to the Final Four each year, played in two national championship games (2003, 2005) and won the 2005 NCAA Championship. LeSueur was a co-captain on the undeated national championship team in 2005.

LeSueur started 60 of the 61 games during his career and totaled 60 goals and 59 assists. He enjoyed his finest season statistically in 2003, when he punched up career highs of 24 goals and 21 assists.

Famous “29s” in Other Sports

Rod Carew: Carew is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame after collecting more than 3,000 hits and seven batting championships. Carew’s #29 is retired by both the Twins and Angels.

Eric Dickerson: More than 13,000 rushing yards and 96 touchdowns. Member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and owner of the NFL single-season rushing record (2,105).

Ken Dryden: Dryden won six Stanley Cups and five Vezina Trophys in just eight seasons playing in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens. That’s about as dominant a run as you can find.

Note: Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse rosters are generally available back to 1950. In many years after 1950, only an alphabetical list is available. The Blue Jay Jersey Countdown is intended to be an enjoyable way to count down to the 2013 season. It is not intended to rank in any way the players who wore a particular number.
