Blue Jay Jersey Countdown - #32

As we countdown to '13, a season Blue Jay faithful hope will end with a 10 on the 27th, HopkinsSports.com offers its own countdown ... by jersey number ... to the season-opener against Siena on February 8.

Today - #32

Did You Know: Johns Hopkins has had a player earn First Team All-America honors wearing #32 four times. In each of those four seasons (1970, 1978, 1979, 1980) the Blue Jays won the national championship.

Player Spotlight – Michael Federico
Federico was the starting goalie on JHU’s 1978, 1979 and 1980 NCAA Championship teams and by that standard alone is the measuring stick by which all Johns Hopkins goalies are measured.

Federico earned First Team All-America honors in each of his three seasons as JHU’s starting goalie and the Kelly award as the nation’s top goalie in each of those seasons as well. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1979 NCAA Tournament, was named to the All-Time Johns Hopkins Team at the conclusion of his career and was inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1999.

Federico ranked second on JHU’s career saves list (535) and still ranks fifth more than 30 years after graduating.

Other Notable “32s” in JHU Lacrosse History
John Krumenacker: Krumenacker garnered All-America honors four times in his career with selections to the third team as a freshman and sophomore and second team as a junior and senior. He was a co-captain on JHU’s 1985 NCAA Championship team and helped the Blue Jays to a pair of titles and two runner-up finishes during his career.

Chris Boland: Boland concluded a solid career last season with 135 career points to his credit. He earned a national championship ring in 2007.

Brendan Kelly: Kelly captained JHU’s 1989 NCAA runner-up team, was a member of the 1987 NCAA Championship team and twice earned All-America honors during his career. He is the last Johns Hopkins player to serve as a captain by himself.

Robert MacCool: Garnered First Team All-America honors as a defenseman on JHU’s 1970 USILA National Championship team.

Note: Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse rosters are generally available back to 1950. In many years after 1950, only an alphabetical list is available. The Blue Jay Jersey Countdown is intended to be an enjoyable way to count down to the 2013 season. It is not intended to rank in any way the players who wore a particular number.
