Blue Jay Jersey Countdown - #35
As we countdown to '13, a season Blue Jay faithful hope will end with a 10 on the 27th, HopkinsSports.com offers its own countdown ... by jersey number ... to the season-opener against Siena on February 8.
Today - #35
Did You Know: There is no record of a Johns Hopkins player earning All-America honors while wearing #35.
Player Spotlight - None
As indicated below, there are some years where the only information available in a team roster is an alphabetical listing without numbers included. The #35 has been worn steadily throughout the years, but there are some years where only an alphabetical roster is available and player numbers aren't available.
Like #36, the #35 has often been worn by players in only one or two of their seasons before switching to another number. Most recently, standout faceoff specialist Matt Dolente (2008-11) wore #35 as a freshman before switching to #4 for his final three years.
Famous "35s" in Other Sports
Tony Esposito -Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens (NHL)
The three-time Vezina Trophy-winning goalie won more than 400 professional games in goal during a career that spanned from 1962-84. He helped the Montreal Canadiens to the 1969 Stanley Cup, earned six All-Star game selections and five nods to the All-NHL team during his career. He is the younger brother of legendary hockey player Phil Esposito and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.
Kevin Durant - Oklahoma City (NBA)
Depending on who you ask, Kevin Durant is either the best basketball player in the world, or the second best behind LeBron James. Durant helped OKC to the NBA Finals last season, won a gold medal with the US Olympic team over the summer, has won three straight NBA scoring titles and has three consecutive NBA All-Star appearances to his credit. He recently topped the 10,000 career point mark and has averaged 26.4 points per game since entering the NBA after one year at the University of Texas.
Note: Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse rosters are generally available back to 1950. In many years after 1950, only an alphabetical list is available. The Blue Jay Jersey Countdown is intended to be an enjoyable way to count down to the 2013 season. It is not intended to rank in any way the players who wore a particular number.
