Johns Hopkins Postgame Quotes<

Head Coach Dave Pietramala
"It has been a long road. There have been a lot of bumps and hiccups, and a lot of challenges. This was not one of our prettier performances. But you have to give credit to Navy that is the way they make you play. You can rest assured we came into this game with an awful lot of respect for that Navy team. We knew we were going to have to ground this one out. We knew we were going to have to play with an extraordinary effort. I am really proud of our guys. I think this is one of my prouder moments at Johns Hopkins."

"Considering where we have been, what we have had to go through, and the fact that we had to take a road that went through Navy Marine Corps Stadium against a Navy team at home in their own locker room in front of their own fans - that is not an easy thing to do. If any of you have ever followed the Navy-Hopkins rivalry it has been a one-goal game nine out of ten times. I am just very proud of our guys. I thought we played very good defense. I thought we were sloppy on the offensive end. I think both teams came out really really tight and it seemed to be that way in the first game as well. "

"I think the turning point of the game came when Michael Gvozden made a one-on-one save on Nick Mirabito in the second quarter. Up until that point I didn't think he was playing that great. He had thrown away the ball once or twice. I thought that settled him down and I thought it really ignited our defense. Our defense really started to play with a lot of confidence in front of him. It was a good, solid workman-like effort and we are just privileged to be moving on, especially considering where everyone thought we were going to be this coming weekend."

Senior Paul Rabil
"The third quarter is huge in any game. I think we all really felt that the first half was pretty sloppy. Both teams played well at times, but neither of us really was able to get any rhythm. I thought we came out of the intermission focused and it all started at the faceoff `X' with Steve Peyser. "

"We love playing in front of big crowds. It is always a fun experience and we are excited to play on lacrosse's biggest stage next weekend."

On their offensive approach:
"We wanted to be patient on the offensive end and really focus on maintaining possession of the ball. We worked as a team to score our goals. It took a little bit to get going, but we kept plugging away. Getting that first goal was a big key in getting us going."

Sophomore Michael Gvozden
"I thought the first half was very indicative of how has season has gone. We came out really tight early, but we kept our composure and just let the game come to us."

"All it took was one game. Since mid-season I think we have really came together and played as a unit. Everyone on this team can and has played a major role in getting to this point. It has been a total team effort and that is why we are seeing the results we are seeing right now."

Junior Michael Evans
"Our defense is a team defense. We knew that Tim Paul was their shooter. All of our guys collectively did a good job of denying him and limiting his opportunities on the goal. It was a real strong team effort."

Navy Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Richie Meade
"I don't think we played well enough offensively to win this game. I thought we played well enough defensively. I don't think Johns Hopkins played extremely well either. It was a pretty sloppy game."

"I thought we got the game we needed at the faceoff `X'. I thought we got the game we needed with the ground balls. I thought their goalie played pretty well. But I thought we shot the ball right at him. I don't know if we had some special trance over us or something. The first couple of shots we took, we shot low and put them in the area that we had scouted and thought we could be successful. Then we started shooting the ball high and got away from our gameplan."

"They are pretty good defensively. Their goalie is playing pretty well. I thought our defense did a great job at the end of the game at getting the ball on the ground and allowing us opportunities on the offensive end, but we really didn't do anything with it when we got it."

"I thought one of the most critical parts of the game came with the score tied 3-3. We had a chance to put one in and go up 4-3, but we didn't and they came back down the other end and did. I thought that really took the air out of it for us."

"We had enough shot opportunities to score goals. Had we scored goals and gained some momentum the game would have unfolded differently. I felt like we were creating good offensive opportunities we just weren't finishing those opportunities. We just weren't as sharp and as focused as we needed to take advantage of their defensive mistakes. I thought they had the ability to do that and we fell short in that area."

Senior Jordan DiNola
"The score was not too indicative of how we played. I thought that 6-on-6 we played pretty well. They are very talented on the offensive side of the ball. You can't really key on one player. Everyone really has the ability to score. We knew what we had to do to be successful. We just weren't able to capitalize on their mistakes."

Senior Mikelis Visgauss
On Johns Hopkins' faceoff success in the second half "You can never win every faceoff battle. Every faceoff is a new one. You have to go in and fight and battle. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. There is nothing you can do."

Senior Nick Mirabito
"It was on us. We had lots of shots and lots of good opportunities and only scored four goals. We didn't shoot for a good percentage. It was not a good performance offensively. We didn't put our shots in good spots. Hopefully our younger guys can learn and build from this experience."

On Johns Hopkins goalie Michael Gvozden
"He is really strong stickside. We put a lot of shots high and got away from our gameplan, which was to go low and away. We didn't do a good job of that today."
