Did You Know: Corey Harned is the younger brother of Chris Harned, who was an attackman for the Blue Jays from 1997-2000.
This Season: Enters third season as Hopkins’ top long-stick defensive midfielder • Excellent one-on-one defender who excels at jump-starting the transition game • Also excels on the wing on faceoffs and is one of the top ground ball players in the nation.
2003: Surprisingly overlooked in the selection process for All-America • Anchored JHU’s defense from his long-stick defensive midfield position • Earned a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team after using the Final Four to make his case as the top player in the nation at his position • Entered the Final Four with career totals of one goal and three assists for four points • Scored two goals and added one assist in the 19-8 win over Syracuse in the NCAA Semifinals and scored a goal against Virginia in the NCAA Championship Game • Finished second on the team with 67 ground balls • Fueled a Johns Hopkins defense that held 14 of 16 opponents to less than 10 goals and allowed just 25 goals in four NCAA Tournament games.
2002: Played in all 14 games • Made another position change, this time to long-stick defensive middie (played attack in high school and short-stick defensive middie as a freshman) • Key member of a Johns Hopkins defense that allowed less than 8.5 goals per game • Shared the rope position with Tom Garvey and also excelled as a wing on faceoffs • Excelled in loose ball situations as he grabbed 60 ground balls on the year, the second-highest total on the team • Scooped up a career-high nine ground balls in the NCAA Semifinals against Princeton and added seven against Ohio State • Posted a team-high six ground balls and came up with an errant Maryland pass in overtime that eventually led to Hopkins’ game-winning goal.
2001: Played in all 12 games as a short-stick defensive middie • Registered one goal, one assist and 21 ground balls on the year • Tallied both of his points on the year in the 10-9 loss at Maryland • Tied the game at 5-5 with the first goal of his career with 8:25 remaining in the third quarter and assisted on a Bobby Benson goal five minutes later that gave JHU an 8-6 lead.
At Sachem: Played football and lacrosse • Garnered All-American, All-County, and All-Division honors in lacrosse • Set a school record for career goals • Two-time participant in the prestigious Empire State Games.
