Dec. 19, 2007

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins freshman place-kicker Alex Lachman (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) has solidified his mark as the most decorated freshman in the history of the Blue Jay football program as he has been named a Third Team All-American by d3football.com. Lachman, who previously earned First Team All-Centennial Conference and Second Team d3football.com All-South Region honors, is the first freshman in school history to earn All-America honors. He was also the only freshman in the nation named to the first, second or third teams (one other freshman earned honorable mention honors.

Lachman made an immediate splash this season and was the only freshman in the league to earn All-Centennial honors. He was 23-of-23 on extra points and 11-of-12 on field goals, including 10-of-11 from outside 30 yards and 4-of-5 from outside 40 yards. His 11 field goals are a JHU freshman record and rank as the fifth-highest single-season total in school history. He broke school and league records for field goal percentage (91.7%) and his 56 points are tied for the third-highest season total in school history by a kicker.

Just four games into his career Lachman tied the JHU single-game record with four field goals against Moravian and set a school record with 15 kick-scoring points against the Greyhounds. Lachman's selection continues Hopkins' trend of standout kickers. The Blue Jays have landed the First Team All-Centennial place-kicker six times since 1995 and JHU's place-kicker has earned first or second team honors 11 times since 1994.

Lachman is also the second straight Johns Hopkins place-kicker to earn All-America honors as Ben Scott earned Third Team d3football.com honors last season. He is the 10th player to earn All-America honors under head coach Jim Margraff. The 10 players have earned a total of 19 All-America selections from various organizations.
