Baldwin Selected as South Jersey Touchdown Club Division III Player of the Year

BALTIMORE, MD Johns Hopkins senior safety Chris Baldwin (Southampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) has been selected as the Division III Player of the Year by The Touchdown Club of South Jersey, it was recently announced. Baldwin, who was selected from a group of players from the South Jersey area, will be honored at the club's 41st annual awards banquet at the Woodbury Country Club on Wednesday, December 17.
Baldwin started all 10 games that he played in for the Blue Jays this season (he missed the final game of the season with an injury) and led the team with a career-high 81 tackles and four interceptions. He added 3.5 tackles for losses, seven pass breakups (tied for the team-lead), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He earned Honorable Mention All-Centennial honors and paced a defense that allowed an average of 19.9 points and 321.3 yards per game.
Baldwin made national headlines in Johns Hopkins' 34-3 season-opening win against St. Lawrence as he set a school record with three defensive touchdowns. He returned a pair of interceptions for scores (45 and 28 yards) and also took a fumble back 32 yards for a touchdown. He also tied his career-high with 10 tackles and forced a fumble in the win and was tabbed the Centennial Conference and ECAC Southwest Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. In addition, he was profiled in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd.
Baldwin is majoring in political science with a minor in entrepreneurship and management and currently boasts a 3.27 cumulative grade point average.
Johns Hopkins posted an 8-3 record, including a 6-2 mark in the Centennial Conference, in 2008. The Blue Jays, who improved from 4-6 a year ago, tied for second place in the Centennial and earned a bid to the ECAC Southeast Bowl.
