Dec. 12, 2008

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins running back Andrew Kase (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) and offensive tackle Mike Stoffel (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) have been named to the 2008 d3football.com All-South Region Team it was recently announced. Kase earned second team honors, while Stoffel was named to the third team. Both players had previously garnered First Team All-Centennial Conference honors.

Quite simply, Kase enjoyed the finest season in school history by a running back. He set school records for overall rushing yards (1,635), rushing yards per game (148.6), rushing touchdowns (17), overall touchdowns (17), points scored (102), 100-yard rushing games (8), consecutive 100-yard rushing games (6) and rushing attempts (326). In addition, his 1,724 all-purpose yards rank as the second-highest single-season total in school history and were just 12 yards shy of the school record. He became Johns Hopkins' career rushing leader in the last game of the season and will enter his final season with 2,954 yards.

Kase's exploits were due in large part to a solid offensive line that was anchored by Stoffel, who has started 25 straight games at left tackle. With Stoffel leading the way, the Blue Jays averaged 26.1 points and 378 yards of total offense. The Blue Jay offensive line allowed just 14 sacks in 342 pass attempts despite starting just one senior. Stoffel made the jump from Second Team All-Centennial to the first team this season and also earned Second Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors. He has also twice been named to the Centennial Conference Football Academic Honor Roll.

Johns Hopkins posted an 8-3 record, including a 6-2 mark in the Centennial Conference, in 2008. The Blue Jays, who improved from 4-6 a year ago, tied for second place in the Centennial and earned a bid to the ECAC Southeast Bowl, where they fell to Catholic, 18-17. The Blue Jays are scheduled to return nine offensive starters, eight defensive starters and both kickers next season.
