Hopkins Draws W&J in First Round of NCAA Football Playoffs

BALTIMORE, MD –- The 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins (9-1) football team will travel to Washington & Jefferson (10-0) in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs it was announced Sunday evening. The game is scheduled for Saturday, November 18 at Cameron Stadium in Washington, Pennsylvania - kickoff is set for noon.

The winner of the Johns Hopkins-Washington & Jefferson game will play the winner of the Wittenberg-Frostburg St. first round game on Saturday, November 25. The location of that game will be announced on Sunday, November 19. The other half of the Johns Hopkins bracket features Mount Union hosting Washington & Lee and Illinois Wesleyan hosting Case Western.

How They Got Here
Johns Hopkins earned the Centennial Conference’s automatic bid to the playoffs, while Washington & Jefferson won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and the league’s accompanying automatic bid. These were two of the 25 automatic bids awarded in the 32-team field.

Series History
This will be just the second all-time meeting between Johns Hopkins and Washington & Jefferson. The Blue Jays and Presidents met in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Playoffs with the Blue Jays winning 42-10 at Homewood Field.

Playoff History
Johns Hopkins is making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Playoffs and the ninth appearance in school history; all nine trips have come since 2005. Highlighting the Blue Jays’ eight previous appearances was a run to the 2009 NCAA Quarterfinals and second-round showings in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Washington & Jefferson is making its 25th appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, including its 10th under head coach Mike Sirianni.
