Sept. 24, 2008

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior running back Andrew Kase (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) has been named the ECAC Southwest Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his effort in Saturday's 49-37 win at Gettysburg. This is the first time Kase has been honored as the ECAC Player of the Week and he shares the honor with Wesley wide receiver Larry Beavers. Kase is the second Johns Hopkins player to be honored this season by the ECAC as safety Chris Baldwin earned player of the week honors after JHU's season-opening win against St. Lawrence.

Kase powered the Blue Jays (3-0) past the Bullets as he rushed 38 times for 173 yards and four touchdowns and added one reception for eight yards. The four rushing touchdowns tie the Johns Hopkins single-game record - a mark that has been reached just four times. Paul Ferreri was the last Johns Hopkins player to rush for four touchdowns in a game as he turned the trick in a 31-21 win against then Western Maryland in 1990. In addition, the 173 yards are the second-highest total of Kase's career and represent the ninth 100-yard rushing game of his career.

Kase's effort against the Bullets also pushed him from 15th to 13th on JHU's career rushing list (1,653), while his nine 100-yard rushing games rank fourth in school history. He also ranks12th in career rushing attempts (351) and tied for 14th in career rushing touchdowns (11) and will enter this week's game at Moravian needing just 68 all-purpose yards to reach 2,000 in his career.

Kase currently ranks fourth in the Centennial Conference in rushing (111.3 ypg.), seventh in all-purpose yards (115.3 ypg.) and tied for second in overall touchdowns (6) and points per game (12.0).

Johns Hopkins, which is 3-0 for the fifth time in the last seven years, will hit the road for the third straight game this week when the Blue Jays travel to Moravian for a key Centennial Conference matchup with the Greyhounds. Moravian is the only other team in the Centennial Conference that currently stands at 3-0.
