The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team swept three wins last weekend at Lafayette to continue its undefeated campaign this year. The Blue Jays (7-0) routed Cornell 22-5, Lafayette 20-7 and Haverford 17-10.
Johns Hopkins won 8-1 in both foil and sabre and lost 5-4 in epee against the Leopards. Junior Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) and freshman Jacob Sand (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Friends) each went 3-0 in sabre while senior Bryan Bishe (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley), sophomore Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/Hun) and freshman Max Yusem (Somerville, NJ/Somerville)also swept in foil.
All three Blue Jay weapons were victorious in the Cornell bout, as foil and sabre won 8-1 again and epee doubled the Big Red 6-3. Yusem and Bishe went 3-0 and freshman Aaron Fernandes (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn), Park and Sand went 2-0.
Against the Fords, Hopkins led 6-2 after the first round when Marchuk, Bishe and Yusem swept in foil. The threesome finished the day undefeated for the 9-0 win in foil, while Fernandes, Park and Sand edged out a 5-4 win in sabre. Haverford defeated Johns Hopkins 6-3 in epee.
The men's fencing team returns to action at the Northwestern Invitational in the new year, on January 22 and 23.
