Blue Jay Men's Fencers Win Five Of Six Matches This Weekend Nov. 19, 2001 Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team traveled to New England this weekend and came away with five wins in six matches. On Satuday at Tufts University, Hopkins defeated Tufts 14-3 and lost to Boston College 16-11. The Blue Jays won all three of their meets on Sunday, besting Massachusetts 17-10, Dartmouth 22-5, and New Hampshire 18-9. Hopkins also picked up a win Saturday when Sacred Heart failed to show up for the meet. The Blue Jay foil team had a strong weekend, as Dan Rosenthal (Chevy Chase, MD/Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School) and Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) each went 11-3 while Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) compiled an 11-4 mark. Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) led the epee team with a 14-1 record, while Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock) won six duals for the Blue Jays. In the sabre, Sampreet Niyogi (Voorhees, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) led Hopkins with a 10-5 record. Ryan Schwerzmann (Watertown, NY/Watertown) went 8-7 and James Chen (Boston, MA/Lawrenceville School) went 5-10 for Hopkins. The Blue Jays will take the month of December off before returning to action on January 5 in the Alumni Meet.
