Blue Jay Men's Fencers Win Four Of Five Saturday At Northwestern Duals Nov. 16, 2003 Evanston, IL - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won four of its five duals Saturday on the second day of the Northwestern Duals. The Blue Jays defeated Lawrence, 23-4, Michigan, 18-9, Michigan State, 21-6, and Wayne State, 14-13, before falling to Ohio State, 25-2. Combined with Friday's 3-2 performance, Hopkins went 7-3 at the invitational and is now 12-3 on the season.
Senior Mark Riso (Jupiter, FL/The Benjamin School) led the Blue Jays in the foil with a perfect 8-0 mark, while junior Bryan Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley) went 9-2 on the day. Freshman Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School at Princeton) finished 8-3 in the foil, while junior Marcos Kuroki (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Escala Maria Imaculada) compiled a 6-6 record.
Sophomore Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) led the Hopkins sabre squad by posting an 8-4 record, while junior Fred Lee (Garland, TX/North Garland) and sophomore Ken Park (Oradeil, NJ/Phillips Exeter Academy) each went 5-7 on the day. Junior John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) went 7-5 in the epee for the Blue Jays, while senior Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) recorded a 5-6 record. Sophomore James Thomas (Wilton, CT/Hopkins School) finished the day 4-10, and freshman Nic Palar (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) went 1-7 in the epee. The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, January 10, when Hopkins hosts the Alumni Meet in the White Athletic Center. -30- |
