Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team opened its 2003-04 season last weekend by posting five wins at the White Athletic Center.

The Blue Jays defeated Haverford, 17-10, Saturday, and opened Sunday's action with a 19-8 win over Virginia Tech. Hopkins followed with a 24-3 victory over St. John's (MD), a 22-5 win over Yeshiva, and a 20-7 triumph over Maryland.

Freshman Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School at Princeton) went 15-0 to lead Hopkins in the foil, while junior Bryan Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley) was also perfect at 7-0. Senior Mark Riso (Jupiter, FL/The Benjamin School) finished 13-2 in the foil, while junior Marcos Kuroki (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Escala Maria Imaculada) compiled a 6-2 mark.
 

 

Sophomore Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) led the Blue Jays in the sabre with a 12-1 record, while junior Fred Lee (Garland, TX/North Garland) posted an 11-4 mark. Sophomore Ken Park (Oradeil, NJ/Phillips Exeter Academy) finished 5-3 in the sabre, and freshman Nick Gonzalez (Houston, TX/George Bush) went 3-6.

Senior Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) went a perfect 7-0 in the epee for the Blue Jays, while junior John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) posted an 11-4 record. Freshman Nic Palar (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) finished the day 8-6, while sophomore James Thomas (Wilton, CT/Hopkins School) went 4-5 in the epee.

The Blue Jays return to action this Friday through Sunday when Hopkins competes in the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, IL.
