Hopkins Men's Fencers Win Two, Drop One Saturday Feb. 18, 2002 Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team improved to 18-11 this season by winning two of three duals Saturday afternoon at the White Athletic Center. The Blue Jays defeated Virginia 23-4 and William & Mary 15-12 before ending the day with a 15-12 loss to Drew. Sophomore Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) led Hopkins in the epee, posting an 8-1 record. Junior Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock) went 7-2 and freshman Alex Sinofsky (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) finished 5-4 in the epee. Freshman Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) compiled a 7-2 mark to lead the Blue Jays in the foil, while junior Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) went 6-3 and sophomore Emanuel Strauss (New York, NY/U.N. International School) finished 3-6. Senior Ryan Schwerzmann (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and freshman Sampreet Niyogi (Voorhees, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) each went 5-4 in the sabre, while freshman James Chen (Boston, MA/Lawrenceville School) compiled a 3-6 record. The Blue Jays return to action Sunday when Hopkins fences against Bard, Hunter, and Army in Hoboken, NJ.
