Evanston, IL - Freshman Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) posted a 20-1 record at the Northwestern Tournament as the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team went 3-5 on Friday and Saturday.

The Blue Jays opened action Friday with an easy 25-2 win over Detroit-Mercy, but dropped its next three meets. Hopkins fell to Wayne State 16-11, to Michigan 15-12, and to host Northwestern 17-10. JHU split its four matches Saturday, falling to Cleveland State 15-12 and to North Carolina 19-8, while defeating Lawrence 22-5 and Michigan State 14-13.

Junior Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck), a member of the Blue Jay foil squad along with Bishe', also had an impressive weekend, finishing with a 14-7 record. Sophomore Emanuel Strauss (New York, NY/U.N. International School) won five bouts, as the foil team lost only twice during the weekend.

The Hopkins epee team of junior Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock), freshman Alex Sinofsky (Montclair, NJ/Montclair), and freshman John Majewski (Wrenthan, MA/King Philip Regional) fared well at Northwestern, as all three finished with a winning record. Kotlyar went 13-8 and, with the meet against Michigan State tied at 13-13, won his bout to give Hopkins the victory. Majewski went 14-8, including 0-1 in the foil, and Sinofsky finished the weekend with a 12-9 mark.

Senior Ryan Schwerzmann (Watertown, NY/Watertown) went 8-10, freshman Samprett Noyogi (Voorhees, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) finished 7-11, and freshman James Chen (Boston, MA/Lawrenceville School) went 5-13 in the sabre.
