Evanston, IL - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won seven of its nine duals at the Northwestern Invitational this weekend. The Blue Jays are now 13-3 on the season.

Hopkins opened the weekend by defeating Detroit, 24-3, on Friday, and followed with a 17-10 win over Wayne State. The Blue Jays went on to top Michigan, 19-8, Northwestern, 17-10, and Cleveland State, 24-3, to go a perfect 5-0 on Friday.

JHU began Saturday's action with a 21-6 victory over Lawrence, and defeated Michigan State, 19-8. The Blue Jays lost their two finals duals of the day, falling to North Carolina, 17-10, and Ohio State, 22-5.

Sophomore Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) led Hopkins in the foil with a 21-2 record, while senior Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) finished 14-7 and junior Emanuel Strauss (New York, NY/U.N. International School) went 13-11. Sophomore Marcos Kuroki (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Escala Maria Imaculada) finished 1-3 in the foil for JHU.
 

 

Junior Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) went 20-5 in the epee, while sophomore John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) finished 19-7. Senior Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock) went 11-10, while sophomore Anson Tang (Plano, TX/Illinois Math and Science Academy) finished 2-4.

Senior Yong Kwon (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) led the Blue Jays in the sabre with a 14-9 record, while freshman Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) went 12-9. Sophomore Bin Luo (Commack, NY/Commack) finished with a 3-1 record, and sophomore Fred Lee (Garland, TX/North Garland) went 5-19.

The Blue Jays will compete in the Alumni Meet Saturday at 2 p.m., and host Virginia, Drew, New Jersey Tech, and William & Mary on Sunday, February 2, at 12 noon.
