HOBOKEN, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team (4-0) went unbeaten at the Stevens Tech Invitational, with wins over Hunter (22-5), Yeshiva (23-4), NJIT (23-4) and host Stevens Tech (16-11). The Blue Jays are idle until the Philadelphia Invitational on January 20, 2007.

The Foil was Hopkins strongest weapon at the Invitational, as the Blue Jays went 33-3. Sophomore Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) led the Blue Jays with a perfect 9-0 mark. Sophomore Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) (5-0), freshman Ian McCue (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) (3-0) and freshman Paul Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) (3-0) also went undefeated in the Foil. Sophomore David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) posted a 7-1 mark and senior Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School) went 6-2.

The Blue Jays went 27-9 in the Epee, led by freshman Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU), who went 11-0. Sophomore Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) went 8-3, while sophomore Dan Zielinski (Bernardville, NJ/¬¬Bernardville) went 4-3, freshman James Pearse (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) went 3-2 and freshman Chris Mihalsky (Edmond, OK/Edmond North) went 1-1.
 

 

In the Sabre, Hopkins posted a 25-11 mark in its four wins. Junior Jacob Sand (Laverock, PA/Germantown Friends) and freshman Trevor Van Eeuwen both posted 7-1 marks for the Blue Jays. Sophomore David Hill (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) went 5-4 and senior Andrew Carney (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) went 3-1. Sophomore Chris Mayhew (Eagle, ID/Eagle) went 1-2 and sophomore Matt Ferg (New Orleans, LA/Benjamin Franklin) went 2-2.
