PHILADELPHIA, PA - For the third consecutive year, senior David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) finished in second in the Foil at the Temple Open. Ferguson's runner-up finish highlighted top-15 finishes for the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team in all three weapons.
Ferguson won 13 of his 14 bouts on the day to finish as the runner-up to Duke's Dan Cohen. He is now 37-7 on the year in the Foil and 40-7 overall. His career record now stands at 215-80 as he is tied for 19th all-time in program history in overall wins. In the Foil, he ranks eighth with 211 wins. Senior Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) also finished in the top 15 in the Foil, placing 13th with a 10-2 mark on the day. He's now 42-10 on the season and 151-47 in his career. His 151 wins in the Foil rank 19th all-time in JHU history.
Junior Ian McCue (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) finished in 30th place with a 6-5 record, while junior Paul Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) placed 35th with a 6-3 record. Sophomore Justin Bradfield (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) won four of his bouts with freshman Theodore Generous (Baltic, CT/Norwich Free Academy) winning three bouts.
In the Sabre, sophomore Max Wieder (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) led the Blue Jays, finishing in 13th place with a 7-4 record. He is now 45-14 on the season and 135-44 in his career. He now ranks 18th in JHU history in career Sabre wins. Senior David Hill (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) won two bouts on the day and is now 22-20 on the season.
Sophomore
Nick Krywopusk (Richboro, PA/Princeton Day School (NJ)) finished in 13th place in the Epee with a 9-2 record on the season. He is now 20-10 on the season, ranking second behind junior
Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) in wins on the season. Oppenheim placed 33rd with eight wins on the day and improved to 32-11 on the season. Sophomore
Thomas Ronan (New Haven, CT/Pinkerton Academy (NH)) won six of his 10 bouts, while senior
Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) won five of his 10 bouts. Freshman
Kenny Felsenstein (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) won two bouts on the day.
