STATE COLLEGE, PA - Senior Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) was the top finisher for the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team at the Penn State Garret Open last weekend. He placed 13th in the Foil, while sophomore Max Wieder (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) also placed in the top 20, finishing 18th in the Sabre.

Einsiedler won eight of his 13 bouts at the Open to finish 13th and is now 17-6 on the season. That pushes his career wins totals to 126 - ranking him 20th in school history in the Foil. Junior Ian McCue (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) went 3-5 on the weekend to finish 26th. While junior Paul Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) finished just two spots behind, going 4-5 to finish in 28th. Freshman Theodore Generous (Baltic, CT/Norwich Free Academy) placed 42nd, senior David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) placed 47th, sophomore Justin Bradfield (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) finished 53rd. Senior Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) won four of his five bouts in the opening round but was unable to finish after suffering an injury.

In the Sabre, Wieder went 8-7 in three rounds for an 18th place finish and is now 21-9 on the season. With 111 career wins, he now ranks 22nd in program history in the Sabre and is just one win shy of tying for 21st all-time.

In the Epee, sophomore Thomas Ronan (New Haven, CT/Pinkerton Academy (NH)) was the top finisher for the Blue Jays, taking 30th place after going 4-5. Sophomore Nick Krywopusk (Richboro, PA/Princeton Day School (NJ)) finished in 38th with a record of 2-3 on the weekend. Freshman Kenny Felsenstein (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) also went 2-3 but finished in 46th. Senior Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) and junior Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) each went 1-4.
 

 

Hopkins (4-1) returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 9 as the team travels to Haverford for six dual meets. JHU will take on Stevens Tech, NJIT, Yeshiva, Army, Cornell and Stony Brook.
