PHILADELPHIA, PA - Freshman Daniel Zielinski placed eighth out of 75 epee fencers and sophomore Aaron Fernandes placed 10th out of 65 saber fencers to kick off the Johns Hopkins men's fencing season at the 2005 Temple Open on Sunday.

Zielinski earned Hopkins' best finish with an eighth-place result in epee, while Penn's Ben Wieder won the competition. Penn also captured the title in foil with a first-place finish from Ron Berkowsky. Freshman David Ferguson earned 10th, while freshman James Einsiedler also cracked the top-15 with a 12th-place finish.

In saber, Fernandes and senior Jason Park placed 10th and 11th, respectively, while Penn State's Joseph Milliron won the competition. Hopkins freshman Alex Bachman placed 14th.
