March 28, 2006

HOUSTON, TX - Johns Hopkins freshman Dan Zielinski (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) finished 22nd in the Epee at the 2006 NCAA National Championships hosted by Rice University. Zielinski is the first Hopkins freshman to advance to the NCAA Championships in the Epee since 2004.

Zielinski, who finished fifth in the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Regionals, had five victories with 79 touches scored at the Championships. He was the only member of the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team to advance out of the regionals. Benji Unger of Harvard defeated Denis Tolkachev of Ohio State for the Epee Title.
