EASTON, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team concluded its 2011-12 season at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Lafayette College. Freshman Alex Szigeti led the way for the Blue Jays with an eighth place finish.

Szigeti was the top Division III finisher in the Epee at the NCAA Regional, as he placed eighth to just miss out on an NCAA Championship bid. He is the Blue Jays' first top 10 finisher at regionals since Ben Dorfman placed sixth in the Foil at the 2008 regional. Szigeti is also the first JHU Epeeist to place in the top 10 since Dan Zielinski finished in fifth in 2006. Szigeti finished with a 16-11 record on the day and advanced to the final round. Sophomore Jay DeYoung went 2-4 in the first round to finish in 27th place.

In the Foil, junior Ben Wasser went 1-3 on the day to finish in 28th place, five spots ahead of his 2011 finish. Freshman Robert Goldhirsch was 1-3 in the first round and placed 29th, while sophomore Evan Stafford was 1-4 to place 30th. Freshman Zachary Goodman finished in 32nd place with a record of 1-4 to round out the Blue Jay fencers in the weapon. In the Sabre, freshman Aravind Menon was the top Blue Jay with a 19th place finish. He finished third among Division III fencers and advanced to the second round with a 5-5 record. Junior Nicolas Barbera finished in 27th place with a 2-3 record, while freshman Paul Vitale wrapped up his first season with the Blue Jays with a 1-4 mark on the day for a 33rd place finish.
