Hoboken, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team totaled 93 wins to tie for the 3-weapon title with Drew last weekend at the MACFA Championships on the campus of Stevens Tech.

In the team competition, Hopkins went 32-7 to capture the foil championship and finished 36-3 to win the epee title. The Blue Jays went 27-12 in the sabre team competition to place third.

Sophomore Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) won the individual foil title for the second straight year after surviving a three-way fenceoff. Bishe' went 7-2 in the final and 2-0 in the fenceoff to capture the championship, while senior Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) finished fourth.

Junior Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) went a perfect 9-0 to win his second individual epee title in three years, while senior Yong Kwon (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) finished fourth in the individual sabre competition. Bishe' and Bouloubasis were named to the all-conference first team, while freshman Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) and Kwon earned second team honors.
 

 

Bishe' went 12-1 while Frank and junior Emanuel Strauss (New York, NY/U.N. International School) each finished 10-3 to lead Hopkins to the foil team title, while Bouloubasis went 11-2, senior Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock) finished 13-0, and sophomore John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) went 12-1 as JHU captured the epee team championship.

In the team sabre competition, Kwon finished 10-3, Park went 8-5, and sophomore Fred Lee (Garland, TX/North Garland) finished 9-4 as Hopkins finished third.

The Blue Jays will compete in the NCAA Regional Championships this Saturday in State College, PA, on the campus of Penn State University. Competition begins at 8 a.m.
