The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won the 2005 Middle Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Championship title, finishing first out of 14 teams at Haverford last weekend. In their respective weapons, the Blue Jay foilists finished first, while saber took second and epee placed fourth.
In the team competition, senior Bryan Bishe (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley), who fenced with an injury to his weapon hand, led Hopkins with a 13-0 record on the "A" strip in foil. Sophomore Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/Hun) finished 12-1 on the "B" strip, while freshman Max Yusem (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) went 11-2 on the "C" strip. In the individual championships, Bishe finished in second place and Marchuk took fourth.
Junior Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) fenced on the "A" strip in saber, where he finished 9-4. Freshman Jake Sand (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Friends) had the best Blue Jay record in the weapon, as he went 12-1 on the "C" strip, while freshman Aaron Fernandes (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) finished 11-2 on the "B" strip. Hopkins finished with 32 points, just two points shy of the first-place team, Haverford. Fernandes, Park and Sand placed second, third and fifth in the individual saber championships.

Anson Tang (Plano, TX/Illinois Math and Science Academy) paced epee with an 11-2 mark on the "B" strip, while senior
John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Phillip Regional) finished 5-8 on the "A" strip and sophomore
Tom Fellows (Beverly, MA/St. Johns Prep) went 9-4 on the "C" strip. Drew won the team competition with 31 points ahead of Haverford (30), William & Mary (27) and Hopkins (27). Tang took third in the individual championships.
