Jason Park, Fred Lee, Andrew Carney, Jake Sand and Aaron Fernandes combined for a perfect weekend in saber as the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team defeated Virginia 24-3 and William & Mary 19-8 in the Blue Jays' home gymnasium.
Park, Lee and Carney went 9-0 in saber against Virginia while Tom Fellows, John Majewski and Patrick Meany also went undefeated in epee. Anson Tang suffered Hopkins' only loss to Virginia in epee, 5-3, as the Blue Jays won 8-1. In foil, Bryan Bishe and Nick Marchuk each picked up two wins and UVa forfeited three bouts to lift Hopkins to a 7-2 victory.
Park, Sand and Fernandes combined for the 9-0 sweep of William & Mary in saber while Bishe also remained undefeated with three more wins in foil. Marchuk and Max Yusem each won two bouts as the Blue Jays finished with a 6-3 victory in foil. Hopkins only loss of the weekend came in epee, where William & Mary edged the Blue Jays 5-4. Majewski went 2-1 while Fellows and Tang each finished 1-2.
Johns Hopkins returns to action at the MACFA Championships at Haverford on Feb. 27.
