BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team moved to 23-13 on the season after picking up wins over NJIT, Cornell and Lafayette on Sunday. The Blue Jays only loss came in a tight match with Drew. Next up for Hopkins is the MACFA Championships on Sunday, February 26 in Madison, NJ.

Hopkins opened with a dominating 21-0 win over the host NJIT Highlanders. The Blue Jays swept all three weapons in the match. Freshmen Geoff Chu (Short Hills, NJ/Milburn) and Matthew Ferg (New Orleans, LA/Benjamin Franklin) each went 3-0 in their bouts in the sabre. In the foil, junior Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School) and freshmen James Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete) and David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) each went 1-0 in the bouts. And in the epee, the Blue Jays were led by a trio of freshmen. Benjamin Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon), Max Mealy (Davis, CA/Davis) and Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) all went 3-0 in their bouts.

The Blue Jays followed that up with a close 14-13 win over the Cornell Big Red. Hopkins lost in the sabre (3-6) and the epee (4-5) but a strong win in the foil (7-2) led to the Blue Jays' win. Sophomore Max Yusem (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) swept all three of his bouts in the foil. Einsiedler and Ferguson each went 2-1.

Hopkins put up another dominating performance against Lafayette, winning 20-7. Chu and senior Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) went 3-0 in their bouts to lead the Blue Jays to a 7-2 win the sabre. In the foil, Ferguson led the team with a 3-0 record. Einsiedler went 2-0 and Yusem went 1-0. The epee was a closer fought bout, with Hopkins edging Lafayette 5-4. Mealy and Schiro each went 2-1 to lead the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays only loss of the day came to Drew in a tightly contested 15-12 bout. Drew won in the sabre 7-2 to start the match. But Hopkins rebounded with a 7-2 win in the foil.
