BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team has wrapped up one of the most successful regular seasons in school history, tying the record for wins in a season with 26. The Blue Jays are now 26-11 as they prepare for the MACFA Championships on February 24 in West Point, NY.

Hopkins competed at the Duke Invitational on Friday, picking up wins over MIT (17-10) and #9 Brandeis (18-9). JHU suffered losses to Duke (18-9), North Carolina (15-12) and Air Force (16-11). The win over Brandeis was the first for Hopkins since 2000-01 and just the third ever. On Sunday, Hopkins traveled up to NJIT for five dual meets. The Blue Jays swept all five meets, beating Cornell (21-6), Army (22-5), Drew (16-11), Lafayette (26-1) and Haverford (17-10).

Junior Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) won 23 of his 29 bouts in leading the Foil team to a 62-28 record on the weekend. Juniors David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) (16-8) and Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) (15-10) also had double-digit wins. Dorfman leads the Foil team with a 62-28 record on the season.

For the Sabre team, freshman Max Wieder (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and senior Aaron Fernandes (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) led the way to a 60-30 weekend. Fernandes won 24 of his 27 bouts, while Wieder won 22 of 29. Wieder now leads the team with a 78-29 record. It is the most wins in the Sabre since John Chang won 102 bouts in 1997-98. Fernandes is now 67-25 overall.

The Epee team went 47-43 on the weekend, led by freshman Nick Krywopusk (Richboro, PA/Princeton Day School (NJ)) and sophomore James Pearse (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle). Krywopusk went 12-12 and is now 53-30 overall. While Pearse won 10 of 11 bouts and is now 30-8 on the season.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on February 24 at the 2008 MACFA Championships in West Point, NY. The Blue Jays have won more overall (24) titles than any other school in MACFA history. In addition, the Blue Jays have won more Epee (21) and Sabre (24) titles. Hopkins last won the MACFA overall title in 2005.
