BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team improved to 12-3 on the season with five wins on Sunday. The Blue Jays defeated visiting Virginia Tech, Maryland, St. John's (MD), William & Mary and Virginia. Sophomores David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) and Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) and senior Thomas Fellows (Beverly, MA/St. John's Prep) each went undefeated in their respective weapons.

Hopkins opened with a dominating 25-2 win over Viriginia Tech. The Blue Jays shutout the Hokies in both the Foil (9-0) and the Epee (9-0) and won the Sabre by a 7-2 score. Hopkins then defeated Maryland 19-8. The Blue Jays once again swept all three weapons, with the Sabre (5-4) the only closely contested weapon.

Hopkins then turned in another dominating performance, defeating St. John's (MD) 25-2. The Blue Jays won the Foil and the Sabre by 8-1 scores and shutout St. John's in the Epee 9-0. Hopkins then won a close match with William & Mary by a 15-12 score. Wins in the Foil (6-3) and the Epee (5-4) helped overcome a 5-4 loss in the Sabre. The Blue Jays closed out the day with a shutout of Virginia, winning 27-0.

Ferguson and Dorfman each went 8-0 in their bouts in the Foil to lead Hopkins in that weapon. Also having strong days were freshman Ian McCue (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) (10-2) and sophomore Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) (9-1). Senior Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School) went 5-2.
